Jaguar XF Range Case Studies

XF 3.0D Fumes

Problem

Vehicle presented with fumes in cab.

Solution

Investigation revealed oil on exhaust causing fumes caused by leaking rear fuel pump drive seal.

Seal replaced and problem resolved.

XFR Tyre pressure warning

Problem

Tyre pressure monitor light coming on intermittantly

Solution

Checked and tyre pressure monitor valve found to be faulty. Replaced and reconfigured to vehicle using Jaguar diagnostics. 

Jaguar XJ Range Case Studies

X300 XJ6

Problem

Vehicle had a large oil leak to rear. Inspection revealed diff pinion oil seal failure.

Solution

A replacement seal and flange was fitted and the diff pinion reload was re-set.

XJR 4.0

Problem

Vehicle presented with severe mis-fire.

Solution

Traced fault to Bank B top timing chain tensioner failure which caused valve timing to be out of synch.

Stripped down engine and replaced all timing chain tensioners, guides and chains.

X350

Problem

Air suspension fault logged on message centre.

Solution

Carried out fault code read with diagnostic tools and traced fault to near side rear air suspension strut.

Strut replaced, re-set air suspension and cleared fault codes.

XJ8

Problem

Vehicle presented with ineffective heating system despite engine running at correct temperature.

Solution

Checked operation of auxiliary heater pump and traced fault to seized motor.

Drained coolant system and replaced heater pump.

XJ40

Problem

Excessive brake judder.

Solution

Brake discs were checked for excessive disc run out.

Discs were found to be warped.

New brake discs & pads were fitted.

Jaguar XK Range Case Studies

XK8

Problem

Steering noisy when cold.

Solution

The car was kept overnight to ensure that the problem could be assessed from cold start.

A noisy power steering pump bearing was found after careful diagnosis from technicians.

XKR Convertible

Problem

Customer noted that the hydraulic hood was very slow to operate.

Solution

On close inspection the feed and return hydraulic pipes had waxed up completely.

The interior had to be stripped out in order for the pipes to be replaced.

The hydraulic system was then bled and checked for any leaks; once confirmation of the successful operation of hood was confirmed the interior was re-fitted.

Jaguar X-Type Case Studies

X Type 2.5 noise

Problem

Vehicle booked in for diagnosis of a "droning" noise at low speed.

Solution

Vehicle inspected on ramp at low speed.

Technicians diagnosed faulty transfer box output bearing failure.

This required the transfer box to be replaced.

X Type 2.0 D Turbo

Problem

Vehicle presented with glow plug light flashing and sluggish driving. Customer had been near a local purported specialist so had vehicle checked out; advised that the issue was a fuel system problem and would require replacing but also offered an alternative to have a reconditioned engine fitted as this would be "cheaper".

Solution

Jagtech checked fault codes and together with inspection and checks found a turbo acctuator had seized. Replaced turbo acctuator and vehicle now running correctly.

If the customer had opted for either of the other "expert" assessment options they not only would have been more expensive but would not have fixed the issue.

 

X Type 2.0D Cutting out

Problem

Vehicle cutting out under load

Solution

Found non genuine oil filter had been fitted which was causing misfire.

X Type 2.2D Knock

Problem

Vehicle presented with knock from rear.

Solution

Technicians found that very cheap aftermarket rear suspension arms had been fitted by a non specialist garage. These were very inferior and were causing excessive knocking and made the rear suspension feel vague.

Replaced with genuine parts. 

Jaguar S-Type Case Studies

S Type 2.7 D EML

Problem

EML displayed on dashboard.

Solution

Carried out fault code read with Jaguar diagnostic tool.

Using the information given from diagnostic check both turbo chargers were replaced.

Fault code was cleared.

S Type 3.0 Petrol

Problem

Vehicle would not turn over. Another garage had guessed (and charged!) the customer for a replacement instrument pack but vehicle still having issue.

Solution

Vehicle checked and a CAN issue diagnosed; checked network and found corroded wire behind front bumper. Wiring repaired and vehicle now ok.
